A Bridge Too Far

One of the great things about Glenglassaugh Distillery is the easy access to Sandend Beach and the ability to be able to walk from the distillery into Portsoy, which is about 2 miles distant. All that is required to both access the beach and the coastal path to Portsoy is to cross the footbridge over the Fordyce burn at the bottom of the site.

Well yesterday saw torrential rain and gale force wind which brought chaos throughout Aberdeenshire with roads flooded and impassable, houses flooded and evacuated and damage to roofs and structures. So we should count ourselves lucky that the only damage at the distillery was the loss of a wooden bridge that is not essential to the operation of the distillery and is not frequently used. However for a small number of us it will be a big loss as we can no longer enter or leave through the back-door.

Onto more cheerful things and this week sees Graham and I attending The Whisky Show in London, it is a first for this particular show and marks our first whisky event in England and one which we have been looking forward to.

We have had a long silent season this year but are now recommencing production with the first mash tomorrow and then we will be running through until just before Christmas.

  1. I am glad that my lovely ladybirdchen Körstin only got a wet bottom and don’t flush away with the North sea waves. ;)

  2. And she gave us a real scare when she told us about it, we were very pleased that she was OK.
