The Right Mix
November 15th, 2009 by admin
On Thursday we had a visit from Scotland’s two premier bar tenders, Jason Scott and Mike Aikman, who own Bramble Bar in Edinburgh which was voted as number 25 in a recent poll of the world’s best bars and listed in the top 20 bars in the world in Australia’s Cocktail Magazine. http://www.bramblebar.co.uk/
These guys have come up with a fabulous cocktail called “New Yorker Revisited Blush”, where the base spirit is “The Spirit Drink that blushes to speak its name”. The drink will be shortly be appearing on their revised list of drinks at their bar and anyone who wants to see it being made can view it online at http://www.youtube.com/glenglassaughstuart with Jason in the starring role.
The recipe (for those of you wanting to try it at home is)
- 50ml “The Spirit Dink that blushes to speak its name”,
- 50ml squeezed lemon juice,
- 12.5ml gomme syrup,
- a dash of pasteurised egg white or the white of 1 egg
- Dry shake all ingredients, then add ice and shake vigorously and double strain into glass,
- Drizzle 12.5ml claret and it’s done!
Sit back and enjoy
Last weekend saw Graham and I at The Whisky Show in the Guildhall in London, a venue which we will return to later this month to pick up our trophies which we won at this years International Wine and Spirit Competition, The Trophy for Best Cask Strength Scotch Whisky and The Trophy for the Best 40 Year Old Scotch Whisky.
Last weekend was the opportunity to meet trade and consumers from southern England many of whom had never heard of us, but as we have discovered everywhere on our travels, have left with an acknowledgement that our aged whiskies are unsurpassable in terms of quality while our new spirit drinks are exciting, innovative and great drinks on their own. The octave cask purchase offer generated lots of interest and I am looking forward to welcoming more buyers from this area and meeting many of the owners as they visit their casks in future.
We also met up with some “old” friends with visitors from Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Belgium, Denmark and other European countries taking advantage of relatively cheap flights to make the short journey across. We even had a visit from one of our latest cask owners, Marcel Gerber from Switzerland. It is really good to meet with people who follow the blog, have bought a bottle or a cask or just have a general interest in Glenglassaugh, many ideas for future products come from these meetings or from feedback to my blog or just emails to me, so please keep them coming.
Well that’s enough waffle (Scottish slang for irrelevant talking) for now.
Have a great day
Stuart
